What is Laparoscopic Surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery (MIS), is a modern surgical technique in which operations are performed through small incisions using a laparoscope — a thin tube with a camera and light source.
Key Advantages
- Smaller incisions = less scarring
- Shorter hospital stay (often 1-2 days)
- Faster return to normal activity
- Reduced blood loss and infection risk
- Less post-operative pain
Common Laparoscopic Procedures
Gallbladder removal, appendectomy, hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, and many others can now be performed laparoscopically.
Recovery Timeline
Most patients resume light activities within a week and return to full activity within 2-4 weeks, compared to 6-8 weeks for open surgery.
